Carbon Capture & Storage and Carbon Tax Report

This report presents the outcomes of a study conducted on behalf of SANEDI that aimed to explore the interaction between the proposed carbon tax and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) as a mitigation technology. The study consisted of two key components, being a background review to identify international experience on the interplay between CCS and the carbon tax, and a financial modelling exercise to explore the implications of South Africa’s carbon tax design for the financial viability of CCS in South Africa.

Analysis of Carbon Capture & Utilisation Technologies

This report investigates the potential for carbon dioxide (CO2) Capture and Utilisation (CCU) as a greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation measure in South Africa through utilisation of CO2 as a measure to reduce industry sector energy emissions

Alternative Sites for Pilot Carbon Dioxide Storage Project

This study was commissioned by the South African Centre of Carbon Capture and Storage (SACCCS) as a back-up plan for the Pilot CO2 Storage Project (PCSP) in case the onshore Zululand Basin is either not suitable or not available for the PCSP. SACCCS is a Division of the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI). The project also aims to develop an understanding of the requirements and implications of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Integrated Demonstration Plant and Commercial Operation.

Technical Report on Carbon Capture & Storage Business Case

This report explores the business case for continued investigation into carbon capture and storage (CCS) in South Africa. The time frame considered covers an investment and development period between 2017 and 2030, followed by an implementation period from 2030 to 2050.

Atlas on Geological Storage of Carbon Dioxide in South Africa

The Atlas provides detailed insight  for each of the storage types that have been investigated for potential storage of Carbon Dioxide.

CCS Regulatory Framework Report

Development of a regulatory framework for carbon capture and storage in South Africa.

CCS Techno-Economic Study

The study explores the techno-economics of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) development, deployment and commercialisation in South Africa.
